"The Curious Savage" in Bloomfield

March 12-13:  The Davis County Players' production of "The Curious Savage will be Friday and Saturday, March 12-13th at 7:30pm at the Iowa Theatre in Bloomfield.  Tickets are now on sale. 

 

Batavia Masonic Lodge

March 13:  The Batavia Masonic Lodge will have a soup supper on Saturday, March 13th from 4:30-6:30pm.  Choice of several soups, pies, and drinks.  Public is welcome.  Free will offering.

 

Birmingham Lions Club

March 20:  Birmingham Lions Club will provide a homemade Swiss Steak Supper on Saturday, March 20th at 5pm at the Birmingham Lions Building.  Potatoes, gravy, homemade salads, and desserts.  Adults $8.00 and Children $5.00.  Also, entertainment by Bill and Stanley.  Come for a good time.

 

 

Blakesburg Spaghetti Dinner

March 14:  A spaghetti dinner will be held Sunday, March 14th from 11-1pm at the Blakesburg Community Building.  The cost is a free-will donation.  All proceeds will go toward renovating and/or preservation of historical artifacts and the original post office.

 

Blood Drive in Bussey

March 15:  Southeast Iowa Blood Center Blood Drive will be held Monday, March 15th from 9-1pm at Twin Cedars High School.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

 

Blood Drive in Ottumwa

March 15:  Southeast Iowa Blood Center Blood Drive will be held Monday, March 15th from 2-7pm at Wildwood Elementary School in Ottumwa.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

 

Eddyville/Blakesburg S.O.C.K.

March 18:  Eddyville/Blakesburg S.O.C.K. (supporting our community kids) is having a free-will offering spaghetti supper March 18th from 5-6:30pm at the high school.  Money raised will be used for the after prom party.

 

Elks Club in Ottumwa

March 18:  A spaghetti supper and magic show will be Saturday, March 13th at the Elks Club on Iowa Avenue in Ottumwa.  Supper from 5-7pm followed by the show at 7pm.  Adults $8.00, children under 12 $5.00, and carry-out $5.00.  Sponsored by the Ottumwa Women's Bowling.

 

Fairfield Shrine Club

March 17:  Fairfield Shrine Club will hold it's next meeting on Wednesday, March 17th at 6pm at the Family Buffet restaurant in Fairfield.

 

Free Camping at Lake Red Rock

TFN:  Spend the summer camping at Lake Red Rock for free!  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide a free, full-hookup comapsite to volunteers in the following positions:  Whitebreast Beach Volunteer and Whitebreast Light Maintenance Volunteer.  Volunteers are needed from April thru mid-September 2010.  For more information on volunteering at Lake Red Rock, contact Park Rangers Junifer Kruse or Eric Vande Zande at 641 828-7522.  www.lakeredrock.org

 

Friends of the Bloomfield Library

April 24:  Friends of the Bloomfield Public Library, Library Board of Trustees, and the Davis County Genealogical Society will be hosting an auction and soup supper on Saturday, April 24th at the Bloomfield Methodist Church.  Donations are needed for the auction with the funds to continue to improve handicap accessibility to the Carnegie Library.   Call 664-2506 for more information.

March 18:  Ottumwa DECA Egg Project will be Thursday, March 18th from 6-9pm.  Door to door.  All funds go to Austin Wildes to cover medical expenses.

March 27:  Packwood Lions Fish and Chicken Supper will be Saturday, March 27th from 5-7pm at the Packwood Community Room.  Free will offering accepted.

 

Second Baptist Church Gospel Musical

April 10:  The Second Baptist Church at 136 North Green in Ottumwa will have their First Annual Gospel Musical on April 10th at 5pm.  The musical will feature bands, soloists, quartets, duets, choirs, and more.  For questions or to participate call Minister Stephanie Hughey at 684-8161 or 641 814-4900.

 

Short Play Festival

May 30:  The Davis County Players' Short Play Festival "Summer Shorts" will be held Saturday, August 7th at the Iowa Theatre in Bloomfield.  Iowa writers are invited to submit their work for the upcoming event.  Playwrights from anywhere in the state are eligible.  Unpublished material is due by May 30th.  Grand prize for "Best in Show" will receive $100. 

 

Spring Break at the Eddyville Sand Dunes

March 22:  Spend a few hours of your spring break exploring the Eddyville Sand Prairie on March 22nd from 1-3pm.  We will hike through this rare habitat looking for signs of spring and the plants and animals living there.  Dress for the weather and off-trail exploration.  This camp is free and open to everyone ages 7-12 years.  Parents are welcome to stay and explore with their children.  Call Pioneer Ridge at 682-3091 for more information.

 

Tim Nelson Fundraiser

March 16:  Help raise money at the Pizza Ranch in Fairfield on Tuesday, March 16th from 5-8pm for Tim Nelson.  10-percent of your order and 100-percent of tips will go towards Medical Bills.

 

Willard Street United Methodist Church

March 18:  Willard Street United Methodist Church annual soup and salad luncheon will be Thursday, March 18th from 11-1pm.  Adults $6.00 and children $2.00.  Home deliveries and carry-outs available.  Proceeds towards ministries.  Everyone is welcome.

 

Woodland Walk and Talk

March 19:  Join the Wapello County Conservation Board staff on Friday, March 19th at 3pm for a walk through the woodlands at Pioneer Ridge.  This program is for anyone interested in learning more about how to manage woodlands fo wildlife and sustainability.  Management practices discussed will include timber stand improvement, oak savanna restoration and prescribed fire.  The conservation board is working hard to ensure the woodlands at Pioneer Ridge provide the best possible habitat for all wildlife, a user friendly area for the public and a prime example of a sustainable landscape.  This program is free and open to the public.  Call Lincoln at 682-1802 for more information.
