Batty Buildings

September 21 - If you dislike mosquitoes and would like to attract insect-eating bats to your property, then consider building bat houses.  Learn how to build the houses by attending a program on Sunday, September 21 at 2pm at Pioneer Ridge Nature Center, six miles south of Ottumwa on Highway 63.  Each bat house kit is $10.  For more information call 682-3091.

 

Blood Drive in Hedrick

September 9 - Southeast Iowa Blood Center Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, September 9th from 3-7pm at the Hedrick Community Center.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

 

Blood Drive in Keosauqua

September 11 - American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held Thursday, September 11th from 11:30-6pm at the United Methodist Church in Keosauqua.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

September 11 - Southeast Iowa Blood Center Blood Drive will be held Thursday, September 11 from 3-7pm at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics Lobby.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

September 10 - Southeast Iowa Blood Center Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, September 10th from 1:30-6:30pm at the New Sharon City Park Building.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

September 11 - Southeast Iowa Blood Center Blood Drive will be held Thursday, September 11 from 3-7pm at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.  Bring a picture ID and eat before you donate.

 

Breakfast in Hedrick

September 20 - Pre-Harvest Breakfast will be held Saturday, September 20th at the Hedrick Christian Church with serving from 6-9am.  Biscuits and sausage gravy, potatoes, scrambled eggs, coffee, hot tea, and orange juice.  Free-will offering will be taken.

 

Douds Field Day

September 13:  Douds Field Day in Van Buren County will be held Saturday & Sunday, September 13-14th.  Activities includes a parade, kids games, music, horse riding and roping, and Sunday will have a potluck dinner at the Mt. Moriah Church.  Everyone is welcome.

 

Everco Picnic

September 7 - Everco Picnic will be held Sunday, September 7th at 12:30pm at Memorial Park on Elm Street in Ottumwa.  Bring your own table service and a covered dish to share.  Meat will be furnished.  Bring an item for the White Elephant sale.

 

Farmers' Market

Ottumwa  - Wednesdays 3:30-6:30pm & Saturdays 7:30-10:30am in the Quincy Place Mall Parking Lot.

Bloomfield - Saturdays 8:30-11:30am on the northside of the courthouse lawn on the Bloomfield Square.

Oskaloosa - Tuesdays from 4-6pm on the east side of the Oskaloosa square & Saturdays from 8-11am in the Hy-Vee parking lot.

Fairfield - Wednedays from 3:30-7pm and Saturdays from 8-1pm at Howard Park.  Special music also planned every Saturday for the month of July.  Questions call 641 919-9930.

 

Free Seminar by Tenco

September 10 - People with disabilities and their families are invited to attend a free seminar on September 10th from 12-1pm sponsored by Tenco Industries, Inc.  The seminar will be held at the Rural Health Education Center, Room 111, at Indian Hills College in Ottumwa.  Carol Logan, Central Point Coordinator for Wapello County will be the featured speaker.  Lunch will be served free of charge.  Call for reservations at 682-8114.

 

KAABA Rag Tops Golf Tourney

September 14 - Bud Light / KAABA Rag Tops Open Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, September 14 at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa.  Shotgun start at 10am.  KAABA Rag Tops fundraiser to be used for charitable purposes and activities.

 

Managing for Whitetails

September 11 - Iowa DNR deer biologist Tom Litchfield for an informative program on managing properties for whitetail deer.  Topics being discussed will include habitat management, population dynamics and more.  This program will take place on Thursday, September 11th at 7pm at Pioneer Ridge Nature Center.  Presented by the Wapello County Conservation Board.  Free and open to the public.  Call 682-3091 for more information.

 

Milton Fun Day

September 13:  Milton Fun Day will be held Saturday, September 13th.  The day will begin at 10am with the Milton Library Book Sale followed by a parade, baby contest, carnival games, 3-on-3 basketball, kiddy tractor pull, hot dog eating contest, homemade ice cream social, a "Milton's Got Talent" show, and a movie in the park.  Everyone is welcome.

 

Monarch Tagging

September 14 - Join the Wapello County Conservation Board in the Monarch Watch program by helping chase down, catch, and tag monarchs before releasing them to continue their journey.  All ages are welcome to join in on Sunday, September 14th at 1pm for this fun program.  Bring your butterfly net, if you have one.  The program will take place at Pioneer Ridge Nature Center.  Call 682-3091 for more information.

 

Mountain Birds

September 16 - Wapello County Conservation Board welcomes a special presenter, Debbie Barnes, to Pioneer Ridge Nature Center for a photo presentation on mountain birds.  This birder and photographer will show many of her spectacular photos and speak about the birds and habitats in them.  The presentation will be held Tuesday, September 16th at 6:30pm.  For more information - 682-3091.

 

Quilt Show in Bloomfield

September 20 - The 27th Annual TTT Chapter Q Quilt Show will be held Saturday & Sunday, September 20-21st will be held at the Davis County Fairgrounds in Bloomfield.  Over 160 quilts, wall hangins and mini displays will be on display in the Art Hall.  Admission is $2.00.  Food concession will serve sandwiches, soup, and pie.  Proceeds used to send young girls to camp, I-Care, milk money for school and numerous other projects.

 

Sportsman's Day in Ottumwa

September 20 - Sportsman's Day will be held Saturday, September 20th at Forest Lake Camp, 11733 Copperhead Road, Ottumwa.  registration begins at 10:30am and competition at 12noon.  Bring your own shotgun, shells, and archery equipment.  Guest speaker will be Evangelist Gene Bray, hunter, fisherman, and outdoor enthusiast.  Sponsored by Ottumwa Baptist Temple.  Call 682-4836 for more information.

 

Taste of Chocolate

Wellness Hike in Agency

September 13 - Wapello County Conservation Board will have another wellness hike on Saturday, September 13th at 8:30am.  The hike will begin at Chief Wapello's grave site in Agency and will follow the trail.  The hike will take about an hour.  Contact Pioneer Ridge Nature Center for more information at 682-3091.
