"Lunch in the Park" in Eddyville

thru July:  Eddyville Historical Museum is serving "Lunch in the Park" every Friday from 11-1pm at the Eddyville City Park.  This will continue thru July.  All proceeds go to the Museum Building Fund. 

 

"Make a Splash" Reading Program

Now thru August 12:  The "Make a Splash" Summer Reading Program at the Eddyville Public Library is now thru August 12th.  Children age 3 thru 5th grade may register for the program at the library.  Several reading contests, incentive challenges, a water bottle, and a coupon for a free ice-cream cone.  Special programming will be held on Wednesdays at the Eddyville Community Center for kids of all ages.  Special presenters will be present.  There is no charge for any of the summer reading events.  Contact the Eddyville Public Library at 641 969-4815.

 

Bats and Bathouses

August 7:  Pioneer Ridge Nature Area is home to many bats.  Wapello County Conservation Board invites anyone to Pioneer Ridge on Saturday, August 7th for a little bats of the world trivia and a hike in search of these creatures.  The program begins at 8pm.  Bat house kits will be available for $10.00.  Pre-register if interested in a bat house kit.  Dress for the trails and bring a flashlight.  682-3091.

 

 

Bonaparte Buckaroo Days

July 31:  "Bonaparte Buckaroo Days" is the slogan for this year's Downtown after Sundown to be held on Saturday, July 31st, in downtown Bonaparte.  Activities from 7-10pm in the 600 block of First Street include a street dance featuring Ned Francis, an ice cream social, chalk drawing, children's rodeo games, and a community basket raffle.  A new feature this year will be wine tasting .  Stores will be open late.

 

Dancing in Blakesburg

August 6:  Aaron Russell and band will perform at the Blakesburg Development Old Gym on Friday, August 6th in Blakesburg.  Doors open at 5pm and home cooked food along with pie and homemade ice cream will be available.  Music and dancing will begin at 7pm.  General admission at the door is $7.00.  Everyone is welcome to come and have a great time.

 

Free Camping at Lake Red Rock

TFN:  Spend the summer camping at Lake Red Rock for free!  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide a free, full-hookup comapsite to volunteers in the following positions:  Whitebreast Beach Volunteer and Whitebreast Light Maintenance Volunteer.  Volunteers are needed from April thru mid-September 2010.  For more information on volunteering at Lake Red Rock, contact Park Rangers Junifer Kruse or Eric Vande Zande at 641 828-7522.  www.lakeredrock.org

 

Keosauqua Christian Church

July 29-31:  Keosauqua Christian Church is having a clothing giveaway Thursday thru Saturday, July 29-31st from 8-5:30pm.  All sizes of clothes and shoes.  Open to the public.

 

Lebanon Methodist Church

August 3:  An ice cream supper will be Tuesday, August 3rd starting at 5pm at the Lebanon Methodist Church.  Serving eight flavors of ice cream, pie, and cake for a free will offering.  Lebanon is located at the junction of J-40 and V-64 in Van Buren County.  Everyone is welcome.

July 29-31:  A clothing giveaway will be Thursday thru Saturday, July 29-31st from 8-5:30pm at the Keosauqua Christian Church.

Toddler Camp: Moms on the go!

August 10:  Don't miss the last toddler camp of the summer series on Tuesday, August 10th at 10am.  This camp will explore how mothers and young interact, how some mothers are better at caring for their young than others, and how some babies don't look anything like their mothers in the beginning of life.  A book will be read and participation activity will be between the mom and baby.  This camp is for children ages 3 & 4 with an adult at Pioneer Ridge Nature Center.  The cost is $5.00 per child and pre-registration is recommended.  682-3091.
