(Taste of Country) – One of the reasons fans love Eric Church so much is his fearlessness. He’s not afraid to speak up about anything.Anything. So, when the topic of his song ‘Smoke a Little Smoke’ came up during an interview at ACL Festival, the singer happily admitted that some of his favorite music is by artists who are “blasted out of their minds.”
“I’ve always been a big proponent of that side of the world, that side of life and that side of music,” the Southern rocker tells Fuse without hesitation. “Some of my favorite music was made by artists who were blasted out of their minds. I’m a big fan of that — the blasting and the music.”
In fact, Church says that the concept for his song was probably created “while we were smokin’ and drinkin’.” The singer doesn’t hold back, even if knows what he says may be controversial, and it’s always done with a slight smirk on his face.
Church has always been a little bit of a hell raiser, even getting kicked off of a Rascal Flatts tour in his early days, but in the aftermath, the star created who he wanted to be: A country rocker — emphasis on the rock, with a big dose of rowdy.
“We kinda fit into this world,” the singer says of music festivals. “Early on, as a country act, we got kicked out of a lot of country places. We rocked too hard. We ended up playing at some heavy metal bars and stuff, it’s kind of where we come from.”
His approach has definitely paid off. Church is one of 50 greatest live acts right now, mingling with big names like Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift. While he continues to rise in fame in both country and rock, we expect that he’ll continue to be upfront and open — and that’s just how his fans like him.
