Garth Brooks Set to Receive ASCAP Centennial Award

(Taste of Country) – In the midst of a slew of comeback tour date announcements, new music and more, Garth Brooks is set to receive one big honor. The singer will be one a recipients at the ASCAP Centennial Awards, which will be held on Nov. 17.

Handed out at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, Brooks will be in good company at the ASCAP event. The distinguished award will also be given to Joan Baez, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel and Stephen Sondheim.

“Each of our ASCAP Centennial Award recipients is in a class of his or her own, as the creator and performer of songs that have touched the lives of people across the globe,” ASCAP President Paul Williams says. “It’s wonderful to be able to salute them on the occasion of ASCAP’s Centennial.”

The evening isn’t just about the awards, however. There’s also a gala that will celebrate the 100th anniversary of ASCAP the same night and have appearances by the winners, as well as some to-be-revealed guest artists, who will play tributes to the recipients (tickets on sale now, available here).

This is proving to be quite a year for Brooks — perhaps his biggest yet — and the ASCAP Centennial Awards are just a portion of it. On Sept. 4, he’s kicking off his world comeback tour in Chicago and it’s going to be a long one for the country legend, even if no one is sure exactly how long. So far, he’s announced several stops in both Chicago and Atlanta.
