Miranda Lambert Announces ‘Automatic’ as First Single From Fifth Album

(Taste of Country) - Miranda Lambert is back, even though she never really went away. The singer will release the first single from her upcoming fifth album to country radio on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

‘Automatic’ comes eight months after the release of Lambert’s last single, ‘All Kinds of Kinds.’ The new track will be the first taste of her new album.

Penned by Lambert, along with Nicolle Galyon and Natalie Hemby, the song is autobiographical and looks to an era gone by, one filled with references to pay phones, learning to drive stick shift, driving all the way to Dallas to purchase a dress for Easter, recording a country countdown on a cassette recorder (what’s that?) and more. It fondly remembers a less digitally cluttered time in her (and likely our) existence!

Clearly, the song is personal for Lambert, who said, “‘Automatic’ is a song about the good life. It’s about slowing down, taking a breath and remembering what it’s like to live life a little more simply.”

While it’s nostalgic, it’s not about taking a step back. Lambert furthered, “It’s not about going back, but reminiscing about what it was like to hang laundry on the line and wait for it to dry and my dad teaching me how to drive my ’55 Chevy that I still have but don’t drive nearly enough.”

She continued, “The song brings back good memories and it reminds me to take a deep breath and to remember that getting there is half the fun.”

Lambert’s fifth album, which follows up 2011′s ‘Four the Record,’ is due out later this year. The singer is excited about getting a new album of tunes to her fans, if a little anxious!

“It’s always exciting and little bit nerve-wracking to release a new album,” Lambert said. “We’ve been writing and recording since last summer and I’m ready for the fans to hear my new music.”

The wait is over on Feb. 5.
